As a child, I went with a woman people call the Witch from a small Unionist mauntery in the middle of the Disappointments to Kiamo Ko, once the stronghold of an Arjiki prince. There I met a girl named Nor.

Everything else is a bit hazy, not quite real even though it was painfully real to me sometimes. As real as a thick black cape. As real as a broom that can take to the sky.

I'm not sure of anything except, perhaps, that life isn't made to be fair. It certainly hasn't been fair to me. Other than that?

I don't know.

And why should I tell you if I did?





Liir would be described as a scrap of a lad, except that a scrap must be a piece from something else and he's never been able to say that he came from anywhere, really. His features are handsome, given for a certain value of 'handsome'; striking, definitely. Pale. Tall, lithe but solid, altogether sharp; charcoal of hair and green of eyes and green of... green of more than that, really. He likes to fade into the background and listen, watch, but people remember him more often than he thinks since there's something about him that's just plain odd, like the geometry of R’lyeh or the anatomy of prehistoric creatures.

He will always have with him his broom, kept in a quiver that once held bows and arrows. Generally, this quiver will be around his waist with the broom at his hip, but sometimes he keeps it on his back if there's a situation where the broom might be awkward. He also has a satchel of sorts which is generally filled with a few baked goods and more often than not, a book or two.

Update [1/23/08]: as of this point, unless otherwise stated, Liir is in modern Earth-type clothing. Most of it green or black, incidentally.

Update [7/20/08]: as of this point, Liir is wearing a bracelet of black leather and silver on his right wrist.

Update [12/21/08]: as of this date, Liir has a dog (Newfoundland, black) by the name of Makejoy. She will frequently be seen with him but unless mentioned, is back in his room.

Update [2/09/09]: due to the AU fandom weirdness, Liir has a passing understanding of French. He can't speak it, but he can sort of understand it.

Update [04/09]: can speak some Arjiki due to lessons from his father, who has left; will occasionally use Thropp-Tigelaar for identification.

Canon:

• a_no_brainer's canon (TinMan) takes place in the far far far future of the Liir's 'verse. The 'witch' involved in that plot was not Elphaba. Who it might have been...
  
• Liir's canon abilities explained, as clearly as possible and with as much canon as I can put with out being ridiculously spoilery. ETA: An article on Ozian magic which while not being directly related to Liir's studies, should give people the general shape of them for reference. That said, Liir's abilities are much more of a Chekhov's Skill than I Know Kung Fu and will almost never be a case of Phlebotinum.
  • Update [5/18/08] As of this date, Liir can make strangely-flavored oranges, read memories, put up a very opaque shield to shut off his own magical perception, fly a broom, and use the creepy deer thing.
    
  • Update [6/20/08] As of this date, Liir can make apples that taste like oranges.
    
  • Update [7/17/08] As of this date, Liir made a Staff for Ino which allows her to fly. This is Liir's first meaningful act of magic.
    
  • Update [8/28/08] As of this date, Liir can adjust the flavors and some other small qualities of items.
    
  • Update [9/15/08] As of this date, Liir can make (smaller) objects made of natural materials float or move with his hand about a foot away.
    
  • Update [02/01/09] As of this date, Liir can reverse the state of an item by a few seconds (ie, untie a rope that he'd tied a moment ago, unbreak a vase that he'd broken a moment ago) but only a couple of seconds. [Update] This has been expanded to reversing the state of an item as long as he knows how long ago it needs to be reversed by.
• Liir's sexuality explained, as clearly as possible (ha!) and with quite a few spoilers but that couldn't really be helped.

  • Psuedo-Part 4: Liir has codependent issues. For information on that, look here. Here, here, and here are especially easy to understand and the last is quick and might make a lot of sense out of what might seem to other people as confusing behavior on his part (like the woooo passive aggressive, misplaced anger, misreading situations, etc). I waited a long time before putting this up, but I figure it might answer some questions people have about his behavior quirks. That said, his character growth (part of it) has to do with working THROUGH these issues. It's a part of the character, not the whole thing.
